Day One of Regional Championships Complete

The first of three days of championship water polo competition is complete in Round Rock. The higher seeds advanced after Thursday night’s games with the Cedar Park varsity boys winning a play in game to advance. The Westwood and Cedar Ridge girls posted wins in their openers to earn spots in the West Region semi-finals.

The schedule and results for the entire weekend of competition are live. The Friday agenda is full of consolidated action with champions slated to be crowned beginning at 5:30 PM.

Texas Cup, Waco Results, Expansion, and Regionals Info

Big wins for West Region Teams, a busy day in Waco, polo by the Rio Grande, and more on Regional Championships
LBJ, Round Rock Win at Texas Cup

The LBJ boys and Round Rock girls secured historic victories at this weekend’s prestigious Texas Cup Tournament in Lewisville. The Jaguars felled North Region 11th ranked Lake Highlands with a last minute score that broke an 8-all tie. Later the Round Rock girls defeated the North’s 8th ranked Keller by 9 goals to 7. For each team it is their first ever win over a non-West Region team. The Flower Mound boys and Guyer girls took home tournament championship honors. Click here for tournament results for West teams, and here for all the games.

Waco Midway Tourney Results

The BSB and LBJ boys came away with two wins as did the Round Rock girls at the Waco Midway West Region Tournament on March 31. All three teams emerged from the tournament among the leaders on the Varsity tables. See the schedule and all the results from the Waco Family YMCA here.

Expansion in the Valley

Los Fresnos has joined PSJA Southwest as this season’s newest varsity teams in the West Region. The two programs, along with PSJA’s consolidated teams, are helping grow the game in the Rio Grande Valley. Three more games are in the books as they look forward to participating in the West Region Championships for the first time in 2018.

Updated Regionals Info

Micki Krebsbach Swimming Pool in Round Rock will be home to three days of West Region Championship matchups beginning on Thursday, April 19. Varsity title matches take place on Saturday morning followed by Consolidated Championships. Tournament invites are coming soon.

New Referee Request Process

From our friends at TAWPO:
Instructions to Athletic Directors/Coaches (Non-Tournament Weekday Game Upload)

For the first time ever, we are using an online assignment system for all Texas High School Water Polo Referees to manage games and accounting. As such, every game must be inputted into our assigning system. Because there are some regions that play games during the week in addition to weekend tournaments, this becomes a herculean task. Therefore, to make things easier, you will need to supply us with the games to be played at your home pool for those weekday games. THIS IS ONLY FOR THOSE WEEKDAY GAMES THAT ARE CONSIDERED TO BE DISTRICT GAMES OR ARE NOT PART OF A LARGER WEEKEND TOURNAMENT.

To simplify matters, we have created an online form for you to enter the required information we need. It is important that you input every game that is intended to be played! If you only input that a varsity boys game is to be played and you do not enter that a varsity girls game is to be played, referees will not be assigned to the girls’ game. The same holds true for junior varsity games. THEREFORE, PLEASE INPUT EVERY HOME GAME FOR THAT DATE.

For those areas that do not play District games like in Houston, or if you are playing at a centralized pool (i.e. Carroll ISD Aquatic Center), THE HOST FOR THAT DAY is responsible for submitting this information. Please submit this information as soon as possible, but NO LATER THAN TEN (10) DAYS before your tournament.

The form may be found under Non-Tournament Weekday Game Upload at our website at

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact your local TAWPO Assignor, Ken Tyler, or John Rightmyer
